Are you familiar with superfoods? The dictionary definition of a superfood is a “nutrient-rich food considered to be especially beneficial for health and well-being”.
While it’s not an official food group, superfoods usually offer big doses of things like antioxidants, polyphenols, vitamins, and minerals.
The reason they are super is that eating them may actually reduce the risk of chronic disease and even prolong life.
Superfoods include things like salmon, kale, hemp seeds, black garlic, and seaweed. Also in the superfoods group are many nuts, seeds, fruits and cacao.
You know why I LOVE that cacao is a superfood? It’s the basis for quality dark chocolate, which isn’t just a superfood, but also my favorite food!

Dark Chocolate, Fruit, Nut Superfood Bites Recipe
Yields: 15-20 bites depending on size
Total Time: 10 minutes
Ingredients:
8 oz of dark chocolate
a variety of nuts and dried fruits (pistachios, almonds, dried apricots, cranberries, and raisins shown)
Directions:
- Chop any large nuts into smaller pieces. You want to be able to taste the variety of fruits and nuts in each bite and not have the flavor dominated by any one particular addition.
- Place a piece of parchment paper on a flat surface.
- Chop the dark chocolate into small pieces and place in a bowl. Microwave the chocolate for 60 seconds, stir, and then microwave again for another 30 seconds. Continue for 30 seconds (stirring each time) until the chocolate is fully melted.
- Using a spoon, make small rounds of chocolate on the parchment paper to your desired size. Simply allow the chocolate to drip from the spoon and it will naturally take a circular shape. The bites in the photos are approximately 2.5 inches.
- Immediately place fruit and nut pieces on chocolate.
- Allow the chocolate to cool at room temperature.
- Store at room temperature or in the refrigerator.
